Who we are
Meteocentar (“the app”) is a meteorological application operated by Meteo centar d.o.o. This policy
explains what data the app processes, why, and what your choices are.
What we collect and why
- Location, precise and foreground only. When you use “my location”, search, or the
on-radar highlighting of approaching storms, your coordinates are used to fetch the forecast and to compute
distances. They are sent through our proxy to our forecast provider meteoapi.eu. Only
the coordinates are sent, never an identifier that could link them to you, and the request reaches
meteoapi.eu from our server rather than from your device, so your IP address is not passed on either.
From the coordinates alone it is not possible to tell who you are, or whether they are your current GPS
position or a place you searched for. We do not track your location in the background.
- Your saved data. Saved locations, app settings, and any custom-notification
thresholds you create. They are stored in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore) under an anonymous account
ID so they persist across launches. No name or email is required to use the app.
- Anonymous account ID (Firebase Authentication). An automatically created
identifier that ties your saved data to your install.
- Account data, only if you create one. Signing in is optional and the app works
without it. If you create an account, we store your email address and, where present, your display
name, so that your settings, saved locations and Premium subscription apply across devices and on
the meteoadriatic.net portal. You can delete the account and everything tied to it in the app. If you sign in with Apple and choose to hide your address, we store Apple's private relay address instead of yours.
- Crash diagnostics (Firebase Crashlytics). Crash and error reports, so we can fix
the bugs behind them.
- Anonymous usage statistics (Google Analytics for Firebase). Anonymous data about
which screens and features are used, for example that a forecast or the radar was opened, to help us
improve the app. It is tied only to your anonymous account ID and does not include your location, what
you search for, or any personal data. You can turn it off at any time in Settings > Privacy >
Share anonymous usage statistics.
- Purchase data (RevenueCat with Google Play or the App Store). Used to provide and
restore your Premium subscription. Payment is processed by the app store rather than by us, and we
never receive card details.
- Push token (Firebase Cloud Messaging). Created only if you turn notifications on,
and used to deliver them.
- Sponsor banners, free version only. A sponsor banner may appear on the home
screen. We do not use an ad network: we collect no advertising ID, we do not track you, and we build
no profile of you. The banner image is loaded from an address in our own configuration, so whoever
hosts that image can see your IP address, as with any image on the internet. In our own anonymous
usage statistics we record only that a banner was shown or tapped and which one, and you can switch
those statistics off. Tapping a banner opens the sponsor's site in your browser. Premium removes
banners.
Without an account, using the app is entirely anonymous. We do not collect your contacts, photos
or browsing history, and we do not sell your data.
Third parties and processors
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Crashlytics, Cloud Messaging,
Google Analytics): backend services, push notifications, and anonymous usage statistics.
- meteoapi.eu: forecast data provider. Receives coordinates in order to return a
forecast.
- RevenueCat with Google Play and the Apple App
Store: subscription processing.
- Sources of weather data and official warnings, such as national meteorological services,
MeteoAlarm and DHMZ, provide the data we display. They do not receive your personal data.
Legal basis (GDPR)
- App functionality, under contract or legitimate interest: location for fetching a
forecast, saved data, and purchases.
- Legitimate interest: crash diagnostics to keep the app working, and anonymous
usage statistics to improve it, which you can switch off in the app.
- Consent: notifications you turn on yourself, the location permission granted
through the operating-system prompt.
Your rights
- You can delete your data at any time in the app, under Settings > Privacy > Delete my data.
That removes your saved locations, settings, notifications, and the account itself from our
servers.
- Under GDPR you may also request access, correction, or restriction of processing. Write to
meteocentar@gmail.com.
Data retention and security
Saved data is kept until you delete it, or until your install is removed. Data is encrypted in
transit (HTTPS). Access to your data in Firebase is restricted to your own anonymous account.
Children
The app is not directed to children and does not ask for your age. Because the account is anonymous,
we do not collect personal data that would identify any user, including children under 16.
Changes
We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date changes when we do, and material changes are
highlighted in the app.
